Job Description:

Under general direction, the Assistant Director, Loans provides administrative and operational leadership for Federal Direct Loan administration and related Title IV financial aid processes. Supports the planning, coordination, and oversight of loan processing operations, including origination, disbursement, reconciliation, adjustments, compliance monitoring, policy and procedure development, staff supervision, and system/process improvements.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of progressively responsible experience administering Federal Direct Loans, including origination, disbursement, adjustments, cancellations, and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated experience administering federal Title IV financial aid programs, with particular emphasis on the Federal Direct Loan Program.
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal financial aid regulations, institutional policies, and procedural requirements.
  • Experience reviewing and resolving complex student financial aid eligibility and loan-processing issues.
  • Demonstrated experience working with financial aid systems, student information systems, and federal student aid systems.
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and effective communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Title IV regulations and Federal Direct Loan eligibility requirements, including annual and aggregate loan limits, loan periods, cost of attendance, enrollment requirements, overawards, and resolution of conflicting information.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Department of Education systems, including Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), NSLDS, and FAFSA Partner Portal (FPP).
  • Experience monitoring loan-processing operations to ensure accurate and timely origination and disbursement.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret new or revised federal regulations and translate regulatory requirements into operational policies, procedures, system requirements, and staff training.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, and maintaining policies and procedures related to federal student loan administration.
  • Experience identifying compliance risks, processing errors, over awards, overpayments, and implementing appropriate corrective action.
  • Experience conducting quality-control reviews and maintaining accurate, complete, and auditable financial aid records.
  • Experience collaborating with financial aid systems, compliance, student accounts/business services, enrollment services, and other institutional partners to resolve complex loan and student eligibility issues.
  • Experience with financial aid system testing, implementation, upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, training, developing, and evaluating professional staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple operational priorities and processing deadlines in a high-volume financial aid environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered service while maintaining institutional and regulatory compliance.
